LaurenSimmons > Feb 4, 2013 "D" is for desserts. After a dreary, difficult, depressing day, I was delayed 90 darn minutes at Costco waiting for prescriptions so I went hunting for a "D" photo. Desserts was all I could come up with. I'm delighted to be done with this day.
LaurenSimmons > Feb 3, 2013 Continuing with my alphabet project..."C" is for Covington. The Covington is a senior community/skilled nursing center in Aliso Viejo. I have spent many, many hours here in the past two months with my mother-in-law. Tonight will be her last night here. Tomorrow she goes home and hospice will take over her care. Thanks to all the wonderful physical therapists and occupational therapists who were kind and gentle.
LaurenSimmons > Feb 2, 2013 Moving on with the alphabet..."B" is for bicycle. Like usual, I am shooting close up. One of these days, I will try backing up.
LaurenSimmons > Feb 1, 2013 A friend put out a new challenge to the photo-a-day project and it is to shoot through the alphabet this month. Here you go Susan...A is for Apples!
LaurenSimmons > Jan 31, 2013 I had some time this morning to go on a walk with my friend Janice. It was just ducky!
LaurenSimmons > Jan 30, 2013 Tonight was book club. We had some wine, some discussion, some laughs! I have totally gone into the digital age and will almost never read a paper book anymore. My ipad is my library. If you are looking for a good read, try this one. It was excellent!
LaurenSimmons > Jan 29, 2013 Back in the fall, I planted a bunch of flowers in anticipation of a day such as this. I knew I was going to take on a photo-a-day project starting in January and wanted flowers to shoot right in the backyard when my days were too hectic to find something else to photograph. I was not anticipating a cold spell like we got a couple of weeks ago. The only flowers left in my garden are a few hardy marigolds. I will have to look elsewhere for my subjects until we get a steady stream of warmer weather.
LaurenSimmons > Jan 28, 2013 I went the whole crazy day and didn't have time to shoot anything. On my last errand of the day, I noticed the sky so I pulled over in the Home Depot lot and shot away with my G12. The sky behind the windmill wasn't quite so spectacular so I took a shot of the sky and the windmill separately and used some blending in Photoshop.
LaurenSimmons > Jan 27, 2013 What better way to say thanks than with chocolate cake? My son did something really nice so I had to do something nice in return : ).
LaurenSimmons > Jan 26, 2013 I realized quite a while ago that food photography is an art in itself and one that I am not good at but when you find a good recipe, you have to share it. My first shots of this recipe made it look like glazed chicken on a plate. When I checked out the image on the food network site it wasn't any better so I decided to go with a shot of the almost eaten dessert. Served warm with vanilla ice cream is the best! Check this link for the recipe.

LaurenSimmons > Jan 25, 2013 I shot this in the memorial rose garden at The Covington in Aliso Viejo which is a senior community. They have a group of seniors that tends to the garden and they call themselves the Dead Headers : )
LaurenSimmons > Jan 24, 2013 I just can't help myself when there are flowers in the room.
LaurenSimmons > Jan 23, 2013 The flowers were pretty. The sentiment was beautiful. My son brought these to his grandmother at the nursing home today.
LaurenSimmons > Jan 22, 2013 This prickly guy caught my eye today. Someday I am going to learn the name of all these plants.
LaurenSimmons > Jan 21, 2013 Yesterday, Barack Obama was sworn into office for his second term. Today, the inaugural festivities took place. I don't usually get political but...with so many people out of work, losing their homes and going hungry, the excess of the inaugural celebrations just doesn't sit right with me. For those that think I am bashing Obama, I am not. It is not a Democrat or Republican issue, it is an American issue. I think a small, respectful swearing in ceremony was all that was needed.
